The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ogun State government to build a weather station at the Ogun State cargo airport in Sagamu.
During the MoU signing on Monday, July 22, 2024, NiMet director-general, Prof. Charles Anosike stated that the partnership aligns with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) protocols, which require member states to establish and maintain meteorological services provided by national meteorological offices.
“His Excellency, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, is committed to this strategic relationship with NiMet. He personally called during the MOU signing. I want to assure him and the people of Ogun State of our full support. NiMet approaches every project with professionalism because aeronautical meteorology contributes to the guarantee of safety standards, economy and efficiency of flights as stipulated by the ICAO and the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO),” Anosike said.
Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo signed on behalf of the state, accompanied by the permanent secretary in the Bureau of Cabinet and Special Services, Ogun State government, Alhaji I.O. Saka. Dairo praised Anosike and the NiMet team for the professional handling of the process leading to the MoU signing.
NiMet Director of Legal Services Shola Gabriel also witnessed the MoU signing.
