The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is set to collaborate with the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) to enhance the capacity building of its meteorologists, scientists and other staff.

Disclosing this recently, the agency’s director-general, Prof. Charles Anosike, said the announcement was made during a courtesy visit by members of the Maitama-Abuja chapter of the institute.

Anosike expressed NiMet’s commitment to aligning with global standards in meteorology and highlighted the agency’s dedication to supporting its staff in improving management and leadership skills. He emphasised the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s focus on training and staff welfare, echoing the directives of the minister, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN. Furthermore, Anosike underscored NiMet’s commitment to contributing to the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

“As a fellow of NIM and a member of the Maitama-Abuja chapter of the institute, I thank the leadership of NIM for the solidarity visit. I am honoured and excited at the same time because I can see collaborative partnerships between NiMet and NIM. NIM can support NiMet in the area of capacity building with emphasis on leadership and management training,” said Anosike during the meeting.

He also extended an invitation to the NIM leadership to NiMet’s flagship event, the public presentation of the seasonal climate prediction (SCP), scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Anosike expressed NiMet’s interest in innovative partnerships, suggesting that NIM could establish a forum where NiMet meteorologists share data generated by the agency with younger NIM members and other stakeholders.

In response, the chairman of the Maitama-Abuja chapter of NIM, Engnr. Abdul-Lawal Zubair congratulated Anosike on his appointment and assured him of NIM’s collaboration with NiMet in the areas outlined by the DG/CEO. The visit included the exchange of gifts between the two institutions and the decoration of Anosike with an NIM muffler, with a charge to represent the institute and the branch positively in all his engagements.
