The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in collaboration with Earth Networks (EN), a US-based company, has wrapped up the installation of the Automatic Weather Observing System (AWOS) and new lightning sensor at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos (MMIA).
The director-general of NiMet, Prof. Mansur Matazu, disclosed this during the last installation of the first phase of equipment installation made by the agency and EN at the MMIA. ” The MMIA installation marks the round-up of the first phase of the installations carried out by both institutions as enshrined in the terms outlined in the MoU signed between both parties.
“Recall that NiMet and EN signed an MoU last September for the provision of lightning sensors and AWOS for NiMet to enhance the safety of flight operations at various airports in the country.”
It would be recalled also that the first phase started with Abuja on June 1, 2022, before the team proceeded to the Benin Airport and rounded off with the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos. The second phase will resume immediately with NiMet engineers spearheading the installations.
