The director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike has emphasised the need for collaboration among relevant agencies to enhance disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation efforts.
He conveyed this message during the ‘Technical Workshop On Sendai Framework Monitoring And Reporting’ in Abuja, organised by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
Anosike highlighted the significant challenges posed by disasters to the nation, stressing the importance of strengthened coordination mechanisms for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. He urged agencies to foster partnerships and collaboration to collectively enhance Nigeria’s resilience and effectively mitigate the impacts of disasters.
Recognising NiMet’s vital role in providing accurate weather information and climate services, Anosike emphasised the agency’s commitment to contributing to data-driven strategies for informed decision-making, resilient communities, and sustainable development through the utilisation of the Sendai Framework Monitor.
