The director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola has issued a warning to the public regarding the proliferation of unauthorised social media accounts falsely claiming to be associated with him.

In a recent statement via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @MobereolaD, the director-general emphasised that these fake accounts have no affiliation with him or NIMASA. He advised the public to exercise caution and ensure they only engage with official social media platforms.

For clarity, Mobereola stated that any party presenting itself as acting on behalf of NIMASA or any member of the agency’s executive management is entirely fraudulent. NIMASA disclaims any responsibility for their actions and urges the public to be vigilant.

The public is strongly encouraged to verify any suspicious claims to avoid falling victim to scams. NIMASA has not authorised any entity or individual to act on its behalf. Incidents involving these fraudulent accounts should be reported to info@nimasa.gov.ng or the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

Mobereola further disclaimed any liability for losses incurred by individuals who may have relied on these fake Facebook accounts, LinkedIn profiles, emails, or other online publications.
