In a landmark gathering at the General Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State, leading church figures, civic advocates and diaspora partners issued a powerful call for Nigerian Christians to reclaim their role in shaping the nation’s future.

The seminar, themed “Occupy Till I Come,” drew over 1,500 participants and featured stirring presentations on the moral, economic, and security crises confronting the country. Speakers urged believers to step beyond church walls and engage actively in civic life, policymaking, and community development.

Rev. Barr. Emmanuel Ihim, convener of the event, launched the seminar by presenting a strategic framework for societal transformation. He challenged Christians to build solid spiritual foundations rooted in integrity and prayer, educate themselves on civil rights and responsibilities and model ethical leadership while mentoring the next generation.

“Revival is only the starting point,” he declared. “Our divine mandate is to occupy; to engage, to influence and to transform every sphere of society.”

Keynote speakers amplified the urgency. Rt. Rev. Dr. Ikechukwu Nkulo decried worsening poverty and insecurity, noting that millions live in fear, hunger and hopelessness. Attorney Lloyd Ukwu, a civic activist and U.S.-trained lawyer, emphasised that democracy only flourishes when moral institutions, including the church, stand united and bold. Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abia State, Rev. Ojo Ojo Uduma called on the church to rediscover its prophetic voice and shine as a beacon of hope.

The seminar concluded with the formal handover of vision documents to a representative of the Abia State Governor, sealing a partnership between the Diaspora Alliance and local authorities to advance civic education and grassroots development.

Chief of staff to the governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D. highlighted the relevance of Christian engagement across the “Seven Mountains of Influence” – government, media, education, business and more – and encouraged believers to step into leadership roles.

The event ended with fervent prayers and pledges to rebuild communities, mentor youth, and speak truth to power. Organisers hope this gathering will spark similar movements nationwide and, in the diaspora, uniting Christians in their shared mission to be salt and light in these challenging times.
