The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mrs. Esuabana Nko-Asanye has announced that Nigeria is collaborating with the Republic of Russia in the fields of space technology, agriculture, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to enhance the socio-economic development of both nations.
According to Nko-Asanye, science does not operate in isolation; therefore, collaboration between nations is essential to strengthen bilateral relationships. She made this statement during a courtesy visit from officials of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, led by Senior Counselor for Trade and Economic Affairs, Sergei Pliushchov in Abuja.
Nko-Asanye informed the delegation that the ministry is interested in training scientific officers and other researchers, particularly in the area of space technology in Russia, contingent upon the Russian government’s sponsorship of these professionals.
She expressed appreciation for the Russian Republic’s willingness to support this training request, noting Russia’s interest in Nigeria’s development.
Earlier, Pliushchov stated that Russia is prepared to collaborate with Nigeria in training and retraining scientific experts to improve the country’s productivity.
In a statement from the ministry’s director of information and public relations, Atuora Obed the envoy further indicated that the Russian Embassy in Nigeria is engaging online experts from Russia to enhance the technical skills of Nigerians across various fields.
