The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) has urged stakeholders in the biotechnology industry to collaborate and share knowledge to advance biotechnology in Nigeria and across Africa.

This call to action was made during the closing ceremony of the International Conference on Biotechnology 2024 (ICoB24). The conference brought together leading scientists, researchers, policymakers, industry experts and entrepreneurs from around the globe to explore the transformative potential of biotechnology in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.

In his closing remarks, the director-general of NBRDA, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha implored participants to stay committed to leveraging biotechnology as a force for positive change. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that the knowledge shared and networks built during the conference continue to yield long-term benefits.

As we reflect on the discussions and knowledge gained at ICoB24, let us embody the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and excellence that has defined our time together. Let us ensure the insights shared reach a broader audience and are translated into tangible advancements in the biotechnology sector. It is our collective responsibility to continually push the boundaries of what is possible, challenge assumptions, and embrace change as we work together to create a prosperous future for generations to come,” he said.

Mustapha also expressed his gratitude to the conference partners and sponsors, including the Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), World Bank Assisted Project, Bauchi State Government, African Seed Trade Association (AFSTA), African Agricultural Foundation (AATF), PBS, OFAB Africa, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHETSCO) and Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC). He acknowledged their generous contributions and unwavering support, which were instrumental in making the conference a reality, and he thanked them for their belief in the transformative potential of biotechnology and their commitment to fostering collaboration.

Director of the Agricultural Biotechnology Department of NBRDA and chairman of the local organising committee (LOC) for the conference, Dr. Rose Gidado emphasised that the knowledge networks forged during the event would pave the way for a future where biotechnology improves lives and sustains the planet. She extended her heartfelt gratitude to participants and stakeholders for their roles in making the event successful.
