NIGCOMSAT Launches Accelerator Programme To Propel Space-Tech Start-Ups

In a bid to expand its market reach and contribute significantly to the space and tech industry, the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd has unveiled its accelerator programme.

This initiative is tailored for early-stage companies with space-tech solutions, aiming to serve as a launchpad for success in the dynamic realms of technology and satellite communications.

According to the managing director and chief executive officer, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton Idehen the NIGCOMSAT accelerator programme is a transformative journey that spans key stages, providing a blend of mentorship, networking and exposure to catapult start-ups into the global space-tech arena. She elaborated on the five key stages of the programme:

  1. Application Stage: Applicants have the opportunity to submit groundbreaking space-related solutions, showcasing their potential to revolutionise the satellite industry.
  2. Evaluation Stage: The panel assesses applications based on innovation, feasibility and impact, shortlisting applicants with promising potential.
  3. Deep Dive Stage: Selected start-ups undergo an intensive and transformative journey aimed at refining their space and satellite solutions.
  4. Visibility and Market Access Stage: Participants gain unparalleled access to showcase their start-ups on a global stage, increasing visibility and market opportunities.
  5. Exit Stage: Participants complete the programme with refined strategies, a robust network and a fortified foundation for success.

The programme, spanning 24 weeks (12 weeks for product development and 12 weeks for business development), offers a cash prize and connectivity with markets across West, Central and Southeast Africa. Additionally, participants benefit from mentorship provided by industry veterans, access to digital solutions and increased visibility.

The general manager of corporate affairs and special projects at NIGCOMSAT, Dr. Adamu Idris emphasised that the programme signifies NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to fostering innovation in the space and tech sector, contributing to the growth and development of emerging companies in the industry. The launch of the accelerator programme marks a strategic move by NIGCOMSAT to nurture and support the next generation of space-tech innovators.
