The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd has teamed up with Eutelsat, a global leader in satellite communications, to announce a significant multi-year, multi-million-dollar partnership aimed at delivering low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite services in Nigeria.

This strategic agreement positions NIGCOMSAT as the leading satellite service provider in Nigeria, utilising the OneWeb LEO network to offer high-speed, low-latency connectivity.

The new services will serve a variety of sectors, including government, enterprises, and underserved rural areas, supporting vital applications such as remote communications, mobile connectivity and offshore operations.

Managing director of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs. Jane Egerton-Idehen expressed her enthusiasm: “We are pleased to deepen our collaboration with Eutelsat, a globally recognised leader in satellite technology. Together, we will provide scalable and reliable connectivity solutions that promote growth across government services, businesses, and communities nationwide.

“This collaboration highlights the strong ties between Nigeria and France in advancing satellite and space technology. By joining forces, Eutelsat and NIGCOMSAT are well-positioned to drive innovation, accelerate digital transformation, and create new opportunities for connectivity in Nigeria and beyond.”

NIGCOMSAT Limited is Nigeria’s premier satellite communications provider, dedicated to delivering world-class services to empower communities and industries. With its flagship NigComSat-1R satellite, NIGCOMSAT supports essential sectors such as communication, education, health and security.

The group was established through the merger of Eutelsat and OneWeb in 2023, becoming the first fully integrated GEO-LEO satellite operator, with a fleet that includes 35 geostationary satellites and more than 600 satellites in low Earth orbit.
