“The enactment of this legislation marks a major milestone for the agency, paving the way for a more effective and impactful future. This legal framework enhances the agency’s capabilities, adaptability, and overall effectiveness in fulfilling its mandate,” Matazu said.
Representing the director-general, the director of human resources, Alhaji Saleh Tukur emphasised that comprehending the Act is not only about understanding individual roles but also recognising how each department and individual contributes to collective success.
The agency’s legal director and secretary, Hamza Yamel Esq, expressed gratitude to the DG for providing the department with the opportunity to explain the amendments in the NiMet Act 2022 to management staff. He described it as critical to the effective implementation of the agency’s statutory functions.
Yamel stressed that the workshop is intended to apprise the Management of the new amendments and explore how they will impact day-to-day operations and the overall legal landscape. He expressed hope that the implications of the amendments for the Agency, stakeholders, and the public at large would be thoroughly explored.
The sensitisation workshop’s major objectives include familiarising management staff with the key new and enhanced provisions in the NiMet Act 2022, explaining the implications of these provisions, and suggesting a way forward for the effective implementation of the Act. This workshop marks the initial step in establishing guidelines for sector-specific regulations to ensure compliance, monitoring, and enforcement of the new Act’s provisions.
