The newly appointed director of public affairs and consumer protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Michael Achimugu has officially assumed office.
A statement released by the NCAA’s head of public relations, Mrs. Carol Adekotujo said Achimugu has expressed his commitment to safeguarding the rights and privileges of consumers, as outlined in the NCAA Customer Bill of Rights.
Achimugu brings a wealth of experience as a communications expert, accumulating over two decades of service across various sectors, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS). Notably, he played a pivotal role in managing communications campaigns for high-profile presidential candidates.
During his tenure at NSCDC, Achimugu served with distinction, showcasing his skills and expertise. His contributions were also noteworthy in the Nigeria Customs Service, where he served as a public relations personnel and pioneered the role of the service’s first-ever social media officer.
In the political arena, Achimugu made significant contributions, holding the unique position of being the first and only Nigerian to serve as a media consultant to multiple presidential candidates within the same election cycle. Notably, he served as the media director of the Atiku Campaign Organisation and, later, as the media consultant in Dr. Kingsley Moghalu’s presidential campaign.
Achimugu’s talents extend beyond the realm of communications. He is recognised as a singer, writer, movie producer/director and has worked as a creative director for multiple media firms. His proficiency as a fixer has been evident in assisting VIPs in creating brands, managing damage control and solving complex problems.
Known for his team-building skills, leadership qualities, project management expertise and consummate professionalism, Achimugu has carved out a reputation as a multifaceted professional. Until his recent appointment as director on December 22, 2023, he concurrently served as the special assistant, customer relations/special assistant media to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN. Simultaneously, he held the position of deputy general manager (DGM), public relations at NCAA.
