Newly appointed permanent secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Kana has lauded the strong ties between the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the MDAs who utilise its weather-related reports and other products.
Kana lauded the agency when he paid a courtesy visit to its director-general, Prof. Charles Anosike today, Friday, January 10, 2025.
Anosike welcomed the permanent secretary and briefed him on the agency’s operations and its relationship with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), where NiMet serves as Nigeria’s permanent representative.
“We maintain strong relationships with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Blue Economy and other MDAs that rely on our weather forecasts for various operations,” Anosike explained.
In his response, Kana expressed appreciation for NiMet’s contributions to the socio-economic development of the nation. He commended Anosike, the management team and the staff for their hard work and urged them to continue striving for excellence.
“I commend the strong relationships between NiMet and other government ministries and agencies. I encourage even stronger collaboration among agency leaders. I will work with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, to ensure NiMet receives increased government support,” the permanent secretary assured.
As part of the visit, Anosike led Kana on a tour of the agency’s facilities, including the newly established digital weather broadcasting studio.
This collaboration aligns with the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s vision to modernise infrastructure, adopt global best practices and ensure Nigeria’s aviation sector remains a key driver of economic growth and sustainability.
