During a meeting in Abuja on Monday, the director-general of NESREA, Dr. Innocent Barikor expressed the agency’s interest in learning from Rwanda’s expertise and successes in combating plastic pollution.

Barikor emphasised that NESREA aims to exchange experiences and adopt best practices in plastic waste management, taking advantage of Rwanda’s notable progress. He highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to fostering a circular economy and noted that NESREA is leading initiatives such as the ban on single-use plastics.

He praised Rwanda’s exemplary dedication to environmental sustainability and innovation and thanked the Rwandan government for its support in building capacity among NESREA staff through study visits. He also emphasised the importance of high-level collaboration between the two countries in environmental protection and sustainability management.

His Excellency, the Rwandan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo acknowledged the significant challenge posed by plastic pollution and affirmed Rwanda’s readiness to collaborate with Nigeria.
