The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a warning to the public regarding a fake LinkedIn account claiming to be associated with the agency’s executive vice-chairman (EVC), Prof. Umar Danbatta.
The commission’s director of public affairs, Reuben Muoka stated that the NCC disowned the said LinkedIn account and it is not affiliated with Danbatta or the agency.
In a statement released by the commission, Muoka urged the public to be “cautious of any communication or connection requests from this fake LinkedIn account”, as it is being operated by fraudulent individuals who may be attempting to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The NCC reminded the public of the importance of verifying the authenticity of any online account, particularly those claiming to belong to public figures or organisations.
The commission advised the public to only connect with verified and official accounts of the NCC and its officials. The statement also warned the perpetrators behind the fake LinkedIn account that they are engaging in criminal activities and will face legal action if caught.
The NCC remains committed to safeguarding the public from online fraud and ensuring a secure online environment, he assured.
