The executive vice chairman (EVC) of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Halilu has announced the unveiling of new products as part of NASENI’s commitment to penetrate the market with innovative solutions.
Presented to the media at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja today (May 9, 2024), the unveiled products comprised the NASENI laptop, NASENI android smartphone, NASENI lithium battery and NASENI 300watts LED solar street lamp.
During the briefing, Halilu provided insights into the Agency’s activities and achievements, aligning them with NASENI’s strategic launchpad. He revealed that while some products are already available in the market, others have been pre-booked for release later in the year.
Recalling the earlier unveiling of the solar irrigation system, electric keke, electric motorcycle and solar-powered cargo tricycle during the Senate Committee on NASENI’s oversight visit earlier in the year, Halilu emphasised the growing demand for Nigerian National Brand products in the market. He underscored NASENI’s commitment to meeting this demand by ensuring its branded products reach consumers.
Highlighting NASENI’s unique position as the only purpose-built agency of the Federal Government dedicated to domesticating technology in both capital and consumer goods, the EVC emphasized the new management’s adoption of a fast track approach. He reiterated the agency’s focus on technology transfer and commercialisation of its research and development (R&D) products, aimed at job creation, wealth generation and reducing import dependency.
Halilu elaborated on NASENI’s 3Cs principles—creation, collaboration and commercialisation—and its strategic partnerships with both public and private sectors. He stressed the importance of taking R&D results to end-users and ensuring the competitiveness and market-driven nature of NASENI’s products for long-term sustainability. Encouraging investors to support the country’s industrialisation efforts, he emphasised NASENI’s commitment to market-driven innovation.
A statement by the agency’s director of information, Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan provided further insights into NASENI’s achievements and ongoing activities. Notable developments highlighted included the NASENI Proposal Evaluation portal, NASENI Growth Hacker, NASENI ERP, NASENI eprocurement, NASENI StemBox, NASENI Innovation Hub, as well as PICTT initiatives such as Delta2, DeltHer, among others.
NASENI’s unveiling of these four new products marks a significant stride towards technological advancement, economic growth, and national development, firmly establishing the agency as a pioneer in accelerating Nigeria’s technological landscape.
