The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is set to partner Oyo State in the promotion of scientific research in the state.
The executive vice chairman of NASENI, Prof. Maiwalima Haruna, made this known when he received the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja at the weekend, saying the partnership would bring science and engineering to the fore in the state.
Haruna who was represented by the coordinating director of science, Prof Umar Gaya, pointed out that the agency had intervened in many areas of human endeavours like aviation, agriculture, transportation, education and also other innovations.
In his presentation on the three basic science kits (BSK), the acting director of science, Mr Ado Galadima, said the BSK could be used to perform over 40 scientific experiments and practicals.
He urged the Oyo State to hasten collaboration because of the capacity and expertise available in NASENI.
Similarly, a chief scientific officer at the agency, Dr Hassan Bakare, emphasized on the need for the Oyo State government to engage NASENI scientists on the scheme known as ‘’Training the trainers’’, as there were abundant scientific capabilities in the NASENI system. He assured the governor that the knowledge and skills required in imparting knowledge through the BSK could be transferred to them through the crop of experienced NASENI scientists.
Earlier, Makinde represented by the executive chairman, Oyo State Education Trust Fund, Barr. Olakanmi Gbadamosi, thanked the EVC for his kind gesture and promised to canvass for over 600 basic schools in Oyo State to have the BSK through the ‘Governor’s educational initiatives.’
