The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced a week-long intensive training on ASPEN Plus, a process simulation software, at the agency’s Virtual Manufacturing Lab in its headquarters in Abuja.

The hybrid training, held across NASENI’s development institutes, marks a significant advancement in the agency’s commitment to enhancing technical capacity in renewable energy and engineering design.

During the opening ceremony, deputy director of the nano-science department and representative of NASENI’s executive vice chairman (EVC), Dr. Chika Ezeanyanso highlighted the agency’s dedication to equipping its staff with cutting-edge knowledge to drive innovation in renewable energy.

On behalf of the participants, Ezeanyanso expressed gratitude to the EVC for his approval of this initiative and his unwavering commitment to ensuring NASENI personnel remain at the forefront of technological advancements in biogas and other renewable energy sectors.

Special adviser to the EVC on science and engineering commercialisation, Engr. Anas Balarabe motivated the participants by emphasising the importance of bridging research and commercialisation. He noted that the knowledge gained from the training would not only advance renewable energy solutions but also foster innovation, enabling NASENI to transform research into marketable products that address national energy needs and support sustainable development.

A statement signed by the agency’s chief information officer, Chinyere Obiorah-Ekwuazi explained that the training follows the successful completion of NASENI’s biogas and biomethanol plant design training, held in collaboration with SRH Berlin University. It is part of NASENI’s broader strategy to enhance the technical expertise of its staff in designing and commercialising renewable energy solutions.

The ASPEN Plus training aims to empower 50 carefully selected NASENI engineers and biochemists who participated in the previous training, providing advanced tools for process design, optimisation, and simulation. This will further equip the team to contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable energy goals.

Participants are expected to leverage this training to design and develop more efficient biogas plants and other sustainable energy solutions. Ezeanyanso encouraged them to seize this opportunity and apply the skills gained to foster the growth and development of both NASENI and Nigeria at large.
