L-R: The deputy director, technology business development, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Edward Abaver; Director of information, NASENI, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan; and Deputy director of Information, NASENI, Chima Akwaja at the NASENI Day held at the ongoing Abuja International Trade Fair.

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is committed to driving Nigeria’s industrialisation by accelerating the transfer and domestication of advanced technologies to boost production across critical sectors.

Speaking at the ongoing ABUCCIMA International Trade Fair in Abuja, NASENI’s director of information, Mr. Olusegun Ayeoyenikan highlighted the agency’s efforts to enhance economic activities through the development and promotion of innovative solutions.

According to Ayeoyenikan, NASENI’s output is geared toward sectors like agriculture, industry and manufacturing, providing much-needed equipment and technologies to these industries.

He emphasised that NASENI is the only federal agency specifically tasked with research and development (R&D), reverse engineering, production and manufacturing of capital goods, machines, and spare parts. This unique mandate enables the agency to push for home-grown industrial capacities, fostering Nigeria’s long-term industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.

Ayeoyenikan noted that under the leadership of the executive vice chairman (EVC), Khalil Halilu NASENI has ramped up its focus on accelerating technology transfers and developing more products for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

He also highlighted how these efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda to transform the Nigerian economy.

At the trade fair, NASENI is showcasing various technologies and products developed by its institutes nationwide. The event serves as an opportunity to increase public awareness of NASENI’s contributions and boost patronage for its innovations. Ayeoyenikan explained that the agency follows the “3C’s” principle—creation, collaboration and commercialisation—guiding its operations in fostering technology development and industrial growth.

Among the products displayed at the fair are NASENI’s transformers, solar CCTV systems, automatic change-over switches, CNG conversion technologies and science kits. These products demonstrate NASENI’s focus on practical, high-impact technologies that can drive local economic growth.

Speaking further on the agency’s commercialisation strategy, Ayeoyenikan explained that NASENI acts as a facilitator, making technology available to business people and entrepreneurs. The agency is currently collaborating with partners on over 35 products designed to support Nigeria’s development goals.

Head of technology business development at NASENI’s Power Equipment and Electrical Machinery Development Institute (PEEMADI), Okene, Mr. Solomon Ani provided further insight into some of the institute’s innovations. PEEMADI has developed a Liquefied Petroleum Detector (LPD) designed to detect gas leaks and alert users to potential danger through a built-in SIM system. Additionally, they have created a solar generator capable of producing 750 megawatts, offering a cleaner alternative to small, noisy fuel generators in rural communities.

In addition, NASENI’s Engineering Material Development Institute (EMDI), Akure, showcased its yam-pounding machine, which can pound yam in minutes. They also presented the boss generator and an automatic change-over switch that seamlessly transfers power from a generator to public utilities when available.

NASENI’s participation at the trade fair highlighted the agency’s role in industrial development, underscoring its mission to enhance Nigeria’s technological and economic landscape through innovation and collaboration.
