The National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) said it will take the lead to champion innovation and research for national growth in Nigeria, to put the nation on a journey to self-sufficiency in biotechnology development.

With the recent launch of the NABDA Journal of Biotechnology Research (NJBR), the agency is poised to push the boundaries of scientific research in biotechnology. It aims to produce scientific evidence that informs policymaking in biotechnology utilisation and development.

Under the leadership of its director-general, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha the agency is making significant strides towards excellence. The official launch of the inaugural edition of the NABDA journal underlines his commitment to fostering innovation and scientific progress in Nigeria.

During the launch, Mustapha expressed his delight at the successful introduction of the journal, emphasising that it aligns with the agency’s strategic plan to position Nigeria as a key player in biotechnology research.

“We are thrilled to unveil a platform dedicated to promoting and disseminating research findings in biotechnology utilisation and development. This will not only amplify the groundbreaking work being carried out in biotechnology but also inspire future discoveries and advancements. The National Journal of Biotechnology Research will be an invaluable resource for researchers and stakeholders worldwide.

“With the launch of this journal, the Nigerian biotechnology research community now has a credible outlet to showcase their research, which is crucial for finding innovative solutions to current and future challenges,” Mustapha added.

This journal marks a significant milestone in the field of biotechnology research and development in Nigeria. It provides a solid platform to drive innovation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing within the biotechnology industry. This, in turn, contributes to the growth and success of the biotechnology sector in Nigeria.

The maiden edition of the journal covers a range of topics, including agricultural biotechnology and bio-resources, bio-risk management, bioethics and biosafety, bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics, environmental biotechnology and bio-conservation, food and industrial biotechnology and medical biotechnology.

A statement from the press secretary to the director-general, Toyin Omozuwa revealed that the NABDA Journal of Biotechnology Research (NJBR) is an open-access, online international journal, ensuring free and unlimited access to abstracts and full-text articles. It publishes peer-reviewed scientific papers and reviews articles from researchers, academics and other stakeholders in biotechnology. As the field of biotechnology continues to advance, the NABDA Journal of Biotechnology Research will serve as a catalyst for bridging the gap between scientific discovery and practical application, propelling Nigeria forward in the realm of biotechnology research and development.
