MMIA Fire Incident Caused By Lithium Inverter Battery Installation – FAAN

A suspected electrical spark in the baggage hall ceiling this morning at approximately 0723 hours that led to a smoke incident in Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, has been blamed on a functional error during the installation of a solar inverter battery, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has revealed.

According to the director of public affairs and consumer protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, dedicated firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) of MMIA and the electrical department of FAAN promptly responded to the situation at 0730hrs. Their swift and professional efforts successfully brought the situation under control.

In adherence to their unwavering commitment to the safety of passengers, staff, and all airport users, the Terminal building was evacuated promptly due to the smoke affecting certain areas of the facility.

FAAN assures the public that the situation is now under control, emphasising their dedication to safety and security at MMIA.
