In a momentous event in Abuja, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, received the prestigious ISO 9001 certification along with the Award of Excellence for Quality Service Delivery from the managing director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Umar.

These accolades showcase NAMA’s significant achievements in airspace management and its unwavering commitment to excellence, reinforcing the agency’s position as a leader in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

At the ceremony, Umar and the top management staff presented the prestigious ISO 9001 certification to the minister, as a testament to the agency’s adherence to global best practices and its robust quality management system. The minister praised NAMA’s impressive achievements, characterising the certification as an excellent end-of-year gift and a strong endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.

This accomplishment marks the culmination of an eight-year journey that began in 2016, following an International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) audit, which identified crucial gaps in Nigeria’s airspace management. Through relentless effort and strategic reforms, NAMA obtained ISO 9001 certification by December 2024, indicating compliance with international standards for safety, efficiency and the maintenance of communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) infrastructure. The certification of all five major airports in Nigeria further emphasises NAMA’s commitment to capacity building and operational excellence.

In addition to this achievement, NAMA was recently recognised as one of Nigeria’s top-performing service delivery agencies, receiving the Award of Excellence for Quality Service Delivery from SERVICOM, Presidency of Nigeria. This historic recognition is the first of its kind since the establishment of NAMA’s SERVICOM department in 2004. Keyamo accepted the award on behalf of the agency, highlighting NAMA’s vital role in bridging the gap between the government and citizens through outstanding service delivery.

Umar, along with his management team, including director of finance and accounts, Ndubuisi Lotenna Nmoneme; Director of public affairs and consumer protection), Dr. Abdullahi Musa and senior special adviser to the managing director, Mr. Haske Jibrin expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the highest standards of service.

These two achievements – the ISO 9001 certification and the SERVICOM Award – underscore NAMA’s critical role in advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector. They reflect the agency’s steadfast dedication to safety, operational efficiency, and exceptional service delivery, positioning Nigeria as a leader in airspace management on the global stage.

Keyamo commended the leadership and staff of NAMA for their transformative contributions and assured them of continued support to enhance the country’s aviation ecosystem.
