In a remarkable show of solidarity with Nigerian aviation and transport unions, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, arrived in Marrakech, Morocco, for the 2024 International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) congress.

The minister’s special adviser on media and communications, Tunde Moshood emphasised that Keyamo’s presence as a special guest underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the vital role transport workers play in stabilising the aviation sector and the broader economy.

The congress, one of the largest global gatherings of transport unions, brings together representatives from over 150 countries to address key issues, exchange best practices and develop strategies to promote workers’ rights across various transport sectors.

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Nigeria’s largest industrial union in the aviation sector, sent a strong delegation to the event, alongside other Nigerian transport unions.

Speaking at the congress, the minister praised the unwavering dedication of aviation workers, acknowledging their significant contributions to the continued growth, safety and stability of the aviation sector in Nigeria.

“The success of our aviation industry is deeply rooted in the dedication and resilience of our workers. We must support and engage with them as partners in our mission to drive the sector forward. My presence here in Marrakech is a testament to that commitment,” Keyamo stated.

The minister’s participation in the ITF congress also reflects the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between industry stakeholders, unions and the government in addressing key challenges such as workers’ welfare, infrastructure development and policy reforms that benefit the transport sector.

In addition to supporting NUATE and other Nigerian transport unions, Keyamo used the opportunity to engage with global leaders and experts in the transport and aviation sectors, sharing Nigeria’s vision for a more sustainable and innovative aviation industry.

He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to improving workers’ conditions, streamlining operations and ensuring that the growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry aligns with international standards.

As the ITF congress 2024 continues, the minister’s active participation reinforces Nigeria’s leadership in aviation and its dedication to advancing workers’ rights, safety and development.
