The governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Radda has urged the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd to collaborate with the state government in linking critical institutions and agencies. This move aims to unlock Katsina’s economic potential by enhancing connectivity.
During a recent meeting with the managing director of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Mrs. Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, at the state governor’s lodge in Abuja, the governor stressed the significance of strong collaboration between federal and state agencies to achieve transformative goals like technology transfer.
The governor highlighted the need for connectivity in various outlined projects, including equipping model schools with 24-hour internet facilities, ensuring connectivity in 7 major hospitals, establishing an ICT centre to empower youth, setting up the Katsina Geographical Information Centre (KGIS) and implementing E-learning platforms.
Radda recognised the correlation between poverty and insecurity, emphasising that internet access can empower young people by offering opportunities for economic advancement through online ventures.
Furthermore, he envisioned a more digitalised civil service with reduced reliance on paper files and a transition to computer-based operations.
Egerton-Idehen expressed NIGCOMSAT’s interest in exploring mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly in agriculture and rural internet connectivity. She praised the governor’s warm reception and his state’s engagement with NIGCOMSAT services.
In a statement by the commission’s head of media relations, Stephen Kwande the NIGCOMSAT boss commended the governor for the warm reception and the interest shown in the company’s activities.
