The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika has described the expansion of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina as a monumental project that will have a lasting impact on the people of the state.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the airport expansion, he emphasised the importance of the project in supporting the security forces to perform their duties in the Northern region.
The expansion project will include the construction of a fire truck maintenance, overhaul and repair centre, a cargo terminal, a new terminal building and a runway. The facilities will not only enhance security but also create job opportunities and boost the economy of the state.
The minister assured that the project’s delay would not be an issue as 70 per cent of the total sum for the execution has already been paid to contractors, and equipment for the maintenance, overhaul, and repair centre of fire trucks is already on-site.
During the ceremony, the Executive Governor of Katsina, Aminu Masari, represented by the commissioner for land and survey, Dr. Bishir Saulawa expressed gratitude to the President for his developmental strides and assured the minister of the full cooperation of the state towards the realisation of the project.
The Katsina Airport expansion project is set to boost economic growth and enhance security in the Northern region and it is a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and the improvement of the aviation industry in Nigeria.
