The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd has announced that its Regional Space-Tech Hackathon and VSAT Training Programme will take place in Dutse, Jigawa State, from April 7 to April 11, 2025.
This initiative aims to empower young innovators, students, and professionals across the North-West region with practical skills in satellite technology and broadband connectivity.
“This programme is designed to nurture innovation and foster creative solutions to real-world challenges using space technology,” stated NIGCOMSAT managing director, Mrs. Nkechi Egerton-Idehen.
The five-day hackathon will allow participants to identify community challenges, develop ideas, and create prototype solutions using advanced satellite technologies. Winners of the hackathon will secure a spot in the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme Cohort 2025.
Alongside the hackathon, 100 young individuals will receive hands-on training in Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) installation. These satellite-based broadband systems are crucial for providing reliable connectivity in remote areas. The programme aims to equip and certify trainees with technical expertise, enhancing their employability and entrepreneurial opportunities in the ICT sector.
According to NIGCOMSAT’s head of corporate affairs, Aisha Bantam the north-west edition follows the successful north-east regional hackathon, held in Yola, Adamawa State, from February 24 to 28, 2025.
“The overwhelming participation in Yola set the stage for these regional engagements,” Bantam noted.
The Jigawa edition will be co-hosted by NIGCOMSAT Ltd and the Jigawa State government, reinforcing efforts to expand digital innovation across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
Registration is now open on the NIGCOMSAT website.
