The alumni association of the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM) at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has elected a new executive to lead its activities for the next year.
The election, held virtually on Friday, June 7, 2024, resulted in the following individuals assuming key positions: Executive director at Development Communication Nigeria Initiative, Mr. George Ndukwu was elected as national president; Deputy news editor and state House correspondent of The Sun newspapers, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye was voted in as vice-president. Public relations manager at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Michael Innocent emerged as secretary-general, and general manager and board secretary at Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Mrs. Ijeoma Okoronkwo became the financial secretary.
Chief Francis Duru, a well-known figure in Nollywood, was re-elected as public relations officer (PRO) of the association, while an assistant registrar at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Emmanuel Onchono assumed the position of welfare and social secretary. Executive director at Framework and Advocacy Development (FAD) Initiative, Dr. Azubuike Erinugha took on the role of treasurer and the country director of Population Media/Nigeria, Dr Ephraim Okon joined the executive committee as its legal adviser.
Wale Makanjuola, an independent public engagement consultant was re-elected as provost and Ako Abbah of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) was re-elected as the auditor. Head of corporate communications at United Nigeria Airlines, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu was elected community relations officer.
Assistant director of human resource management (HRM) department, Dr. Uankhueche Moses Agbonifo and deputy director of the security services department, Dr. Emmanuel Ogu both from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), were returned as ex-officio members, along with Miller DantaWaye, Fatima Wameh Dabugat and Mrs. Alu Azege.
Dr. Onwusoro Maduka, a director at the Federal Ministry of Housing; Pita Obam, a social and behavior change communication consultant to UNICEF; Executive director of TechHERNG, Chioma Agwuegbo and a director of resource mobilisation at ActionAid Nigeria, Nkechi Ilochi-Kanny also made the list.
Blessing Unekwu Agada, Prudence Eboagwu-Ijah and Jennifer Akor Damar were voted in as ex-officio members.
After the election, president of the association, Mr. Ndukwu thanked all who participated in the process and urged the new executive committee to commit to institutionalising the association through impactful programs at ISDEVCOM and within the university community.
Director of the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura congratulated the newly elected exco members and expressed confidence in their purposeful leadership and contributions to the ISDEVCOM alumni community.
In a statement by the alumni’s public relations officer, Francis Duru, Dandaura urged the new exco to “build a body that your congress will rally round the leadership and your executive committee will in turn partner and map out ways to support the ISDEVCOM academic community and Nasarawa State University at large.”
