The International Commission on Dynamical Meteorology (ICDM) will be hosting its 2024 Workshop, themed “Linking Weather and Climate Dynamics Across Scales,” from October 14-18, 2024, at Nanjing University International Conference Center in China.
The workshop, which will gather leading global experts, researchers and thought leaders to explore the interconnections between weather and climate systems across various spatial and temporal scales, ranging from localised weather patterns to global climate dynamics.
Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, Dr. Eniola Olaniyan made a significant contribution to the workshop with his presentation titled, “Enhancing Heavy Rainfall Forecasting in High-Resolution Regional Models Over West Africa for Operational Application.”
In his presentation, he highlighted advancements in forecasting accuracy for the West African region, emphasising the practical use of high-resolution regional models in predicting severe weather events.
The workshop underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among meteorology, climate science and related fields. Through discussions, presentations of cutting-edge research, and the establishment of new partnerships, the event advanced the global understanding of weather and climate interactions.
ICDM 2024 also reinforced the value of collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by weather and climate variability, with a shared commitment to improving prediction capabilities and building resilience in the face of a changing global climate.
