Huawei Doles Out Cash, Gifts To Outstanding Varsity Students

Technology giant, Huawei has doled out over N4.4million in cash rewards and other gifts to students who distinguished themselves in the 2021 Huawei ICT competition.

The competition, the company said, created more room for students to know more about ICT technology in the country. 

During the awards’ presentation, two students got N1millon each as the first prize, two students won N700,000 each as the second prize and two students won N500,000 each as the third prize. Many other prizes were awarded to students who got good marks.

The vice-chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Prof. Kabiru Bala, in his speech, said: “Huawei is a company that we have a very long-standing relationship within terms of capacity-building of both staff and students and the competition is another area in which we have been collaborating with the company.

“Our students have been doing quite well in the competition as mentioned earlier and we are so delighted.

“I also want to put on record that, as part of our partnership with Huawei, our students are certified before they graduate, so they are ready for self-employment, as it were.

“Huawei has donated some very important equipment to our laboratories in the university, which we use in the training and skills’ dispatch,” he said.

The  vice chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, in his address, said: “Nigeria universities that compete for Huawei competition indicate that Huawei is doing great and we are achieving great things with Huawei in Nigeria. They are training our students towards wireless ICT communication and, truly and we have a lot of students that have achieved a lot and realised their potentials nationally and internationally, thanks to Huawei.

“Nigerian students are really intelligent but they need a booster and Huawei is here to offer that. We really thank Huawei for what they are doing and we hope that we are going to achieve much more than what we are witnessing today.”

Earlier, the director, Huawei customer experience management (CEM) solutions, Dr. Max Xu, said that the award ceremony is an ICT competition that Huawei holds annually and encouraged university students to participate in next year’s edition.
