The executive vice chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Prof. Mohammed Haruna, has been recognized as an invaluable engineer, with the award of Icon of Modern Engineering conferred on him by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The award presentation, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the practice of engineering, was part of the line-up of activities to mark the society’s 20th anniversary by the Lafia branch in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The event also witnessed the conferment of other categories of awards on other engineers who have distinguished themselves in the profession, one of who was the state governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for his unparalleled work on quality infrastructural development in the state.
Presenting the award to Haruna, the NSE president, Engr. Mohammed Babagana, who chaired the occasion, commended Haruna for his leadership and giant strides toward bringing NASENI to the limelight.
He lauded the NASENI boss for his drive towards the domestication of indigenous technology in Nigeria.
Babagana further charged members of the society to ensure professionalism in all their dealings, with a reminder that the NSE remained dedicated to providing quality services aimed at enhancing the professional competence and potentials of its members.
Earlier, the NSE Lafia branch chairman, Engr. Thomas Bako, expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and distinguished guests present. He stated that the branch had grown in leaps and bounds, becoming a strategic organisation relevant to the development of its immediate environment, Nasarawa State and Nigeria.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Haruna expressed gratitude to God and thanked the organisers for finding all awardees worthy of recognition.
A statement by the EVC’s special assistant on social media, Mr. Peter Ewu, said Haruna pointed out that the award would motivate him and other recipients to remain resolute in their mandates as engineers while staying true to the statement that the “Engineering profession is key to national development”.
