The Embassies of Finland and France in Abuja, Nigeria, plan to enhance relationships between the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and companies from Finland and France.
During a tripartite meeting on Monday, June 3, 2024, hosted at the French Embassy in Abuja, the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Leena Pylvanainen emphasised NiMet’s significance in Nigeria. She expressed interest in potential collaborations in infrastructural development, capacity building, and project management.
Pylvanainen stated, “The Finnish Embassy in Nigeria aims to foster connections between NiMet and Finnish companies. NiMet’s director-general, Prof. Charles Anosike, will have the opportunity to meet some of them during the 78th session of the Executive Council (EC‑78) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 10 to 14, 2024.”
Charge D’Affaires of the French Embassy in Abuja, Jean-Francois Hasperue mentioned that the tripartite meeting was called to “explore partnership opportunities.”
In response, director-general of NiMet and Nigeria’s permanent representative at WMO, Prof. Charles Anosike expressed enthusiasm for engaging and exploring mutual collaboration between the French and Finnish embassies.
Anosike commented, “NiMet serves all sectors of the Nigerian economy. Our challenge lies in enhancing our observation infrastructure nationwide and keeping it up-to-date, given the rapid obsolescence of equipment with advancing technologies.”
“We welcome your partnership proposals and eagerly anticipate hosting you at our headquarters,” he concluded.
