In a rallying call for collaborative efforts, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal has urged the staff of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) to work in synergy to achieve the council’s mandate.

During his familiarisation visit to the NCCC office in Abuja, the minister emphasised the importance of teamwork in realising the objectives of the growing venture.

Lawal expressed an understanding of the challenges the staff might be facing and underscored the significance of determination, dedication, and commitment in overcoming hurdles. He acknowledged the pivotal role of the staff, stating that the director-general of the council cannot accomplish the goals alone and urged for unwavering support from the team.

“The director-general needs your support, and that support is what we require to move the council forward and achieve its main goal,” the minister asserted.

Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s special interest in climate change issues, Lawal urged the NCCC to align with the president’s commitment. He commended Tinubu’s active participation in high-level meetings on climate change, emphasising the need for the council to maintain momentum and support the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda on climate change.

The minister appealed to the NCCC to comprehend the intricate workings within the ministry’s purview and uphold fundamental values such as synergy, dedication, mentoring, punctuality and teamwork to deliver on the council’s mandate.

“Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to environmental stewardship and collective teamwork. Together, we can pave the way for a sustainable future for generations to come,” he stressed.

In response, the director-general of the NCCC, Dr. Salisu Dahiru expressed delight at the minister’s visit, noting that it was a historic occasion. He assured the minister of the staff’s unalloyed support in achieving the ministry’s mandate.

Since its establishment in 2022, the NCCC had not received a visit from any minister, making the occasion particularly significant, according to Dahiru.

The minister’s call for teamwork and dedication underscores the critical role synergy plays in addressing climate change challenges, emphasising the collective responsibility in achieving environmental sustainability goals.
