A former Minister of Science and Technology during Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has passed away at the age of 72.
Onu, who once served as the first civilian governor of Abia State, died after a brief illness at a hospital in Abuja.
Onu, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, was one of the contenders for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.
Born on December 1, 1951, he held the position of minister under the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Notably, he was the longest-serving minister in the Ministry of Science and Technology, resigning to pursue his presidential aspirations in November 2022.
