The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja and the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development have pledged their commitment to strengthening actions to combat climate change in the country.
This commitment was made by the minister, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN,as well as senior AAAU officials, including registrar, Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi; Director of academic planning, Prof. Yahaya Ibrahim Zayyana; Head of the meteorology department, Dr. Eniola Ajani Olaniyan and secretary of the postgraduate school, Mr. Dennis Joseph Onwukwe at the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, taking place from November 11–22, 2024.
During the conference, the minister held critical discussions with the deputy secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Ms. K.O. Barrett. These talks secured increased technical support for Nigeria’s advisory role, showcasing the nation’s leadership in sustainable aviation.
AAAU’s participation reflects its commitment to integrating climate action into aviation education and advancing global sustainability goals.
