FIND, the global alliance dedicated to advancing diagnostic testing, has appointed Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa as its new chief transformation officer, a role he will also fulfill as chief executive officer (CEO).

This appointment is a historic milestone for FIND, as Dr. Adetifa becomes the first African CEO from the Global South to lead the organisation.

Adetifa, a renowned pediatrician and infectious disease epidemiologist, brings a wealth of experience to his new position at FIND. Before this, he served as the director-general and CEO of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control & Prevention (NCDC), where he played a pivotal role in managing Nigeria’s COVID-19 response. His leadership at the NCDC was characterised by the successful management of significant programme funds, oversight of a large team, and the handling of various outbreaks and endemic diseases.

Expressing his excitement about the new role, Adetifa shared his enthusiasm for joining FIND during such a critical time for global health and diagnostics. He stated, “I look forward to leading FIND’s team and working with our global partners to drive diagnostic innovation and ensure these advancements reach those most in need.” As he begins his tenure, Adetifa aims to guide FIND through a new era of transformation, focusing on innovation and expanding global access to diagnostic testing.

Chair of the FIND board, Dr. Ayoade Alakija emphasised the significance of this appointment, noting that it reflects the organisation’s commitment to diversity and global health leadership. She stated, “As FIND embarks on a transformative journey, we are excited to welcome Dr. Adetifa as CEO. His appointment is a historic first for FIND, reflecting our commitment to diversity and global health leadership. Rebalancing power will advance health for all, and we are proud to have Dr. Adetifa lead us in this mission.”

Adetifa’s extensive background includes work on diseases such as Lassa fever, malaria, tuberculosis and respiratory syncytial virus at national, regional, and international levels. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).

Adetifa holds undergraduate medical qualifications from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria and completed his pediatric residency at Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He earned an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Amsterdam. Before leading the NCDC, he was an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

His appointment at FIND marks a new chapter for the organisation as it continues to lead in the global fight against infectious diseases by enhancing diagnostic capabilities worldwide.
