The Federal Ministry of Health has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GE Healthcare and JNC International to enhance biomedical engineering training in Nigeria.

The partnership aims to reduce medical tourism by providing world-class training locally, positioning Nigeria as a hub for biomedical engineering excellence in Africa.

At the signing event on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa expressed gratitude to GE Healthcare and JNC International for their commitment to advancing biomedical education.

Alausa emphasised that this collaboration would help decrease the high costs associated with sending students abroad for training while conserving foreign exchange.

“This partnership marks a significant step forward in our efforts to revolutionise healthcare,” he stated.

“We are investing heavily to ensure that our biomedical engineering schools are fully accredited and equipped to provide world-class training.
