The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi, has announced that Nigeria will collaborate with Pakistan to explore potential partnerships in agriculture.
Abdullahi made this announcement during a recent courtesy visit from the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Sohail Ahmad Khan, in Abuja. He emphasised that both countries share a cordial relationship and have much in common.
The minister stressed the importance of working together to enhance mutual development, stating, “Nigeria is ready to partner with all our friends to create initiatives that will benefit both countries.”
He also mentioned that President Bola Tinubu, is actively seeking solutions to address security issues stemming from climate change.
The High Commissioner shared that the purpose of his visit was to offer solutions and learn from Nigeria. He stated, “We are looking for ways to support Nigeria in capacity building.”
The High Commissioner expressed Pakistan’s willingness to share training and expertise in research and innovation, inviting Nigerian professionals to visit Pakistan to gain insights that could be beneficial.
Highlighting some of Pakistan’s achievements in agriculture, he noted that the country is the fifth-largest producer of cotton, the fourth-largest producer of sugar, the eighth-largest producer of meat, and the tenth-largest producer of rice globally. These accomplishments position Pakistan as a significant player in the agricultural sector.
He concluded by urging the minister to work together to advance the interests of both nations.
A statement from the ministry’s director of information, signed by Umar Rashida noted that highlights of the event included the official presentation of a letter from the High Commissioner to the minister. Officials from the Pakistani embassy accompanied the High Commissioner.
