The Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have jointly launched the Data Protection Training Programme for Nigerian youths.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande and the National Commissioner of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji.
Speaking at the launch, the minister commended Olatunji for his commitment and leadership in driving the programme forward. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to youth empowerment, describing the initiative as a vital step in equipping young Nigerians with relevant skills for the digital era. He noted that the collaboration between the Ministry and NDPC has made this milestone possible and will help position youths for success in an increasingly data-driven world.
Olatunji, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the minister’s unwavering support. He recalled earlier engagements between both institutions that led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), highlighting the tangible progress now being seen. He stressed that the training aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s priority agenda, particularly on job creation and digital empowerment.
Emphasising the growing demand for data protection officers (DPOs), Olatunji said the digital economy offers expanding career opportunities, making post-NYSC job hunts increasingly obsolete for prepared youths. He urged participants to take the training seriously, understand their data rights and explore the emerging prospects in the field.
Present at the launch were the special adviser to the president on policy and coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman; Chairman, House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Stanley; Permanent secretary of the Youth Ministry, Olusanya Olubunmi, among other dignitaries.
