Under its ICT for Change Training programme, the Federal Government, in partnership with Huawei Technologies Nigeria Limited, trained 100 Federal Civil Servants at the directorate level in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). 

The programme also recognised exceptional participants with awards.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume thanked Huawei for training more than 3,000 civil servants from various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) since the partnership began. He also presented awards to 16 outstanding participants during the closing ceremony of the fourth phase of the ICT for Change programme.

The SGF, represented by the permanent secretary, general services office, Dr. Nnamdi Mbaeri noted that the training will boost civil servants’ ICT capacity and improve service delivery, in line with the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the Tinubu-led administration. He urged Huawei to sustain the partnership and extend it to other key sectors. Additionally, he called on other development partners to support the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the socio-economic lives of its citizens.

Earlier, deputy managing director of Huawei Technologies, Stephen Zou, stated that 100, directorate-level civil servants were trained in this phase, adding that Huawei has cumulatively trained over 3,000 civil servants. He emphasised that the organisation remains committed to training even more civil servants in ICT, seeing this achievement as the start of many more initiatives to come.

One of the awardees was Engr. Dr. Patrick Oghuma, who received the second prize in Batch 2. Oghuma currently serves as the deputy head and team lead (technical and administrative) for project delivery, monitoring and evaluation (PROD-ME) and as special assistant to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.

In his vote of thanks, the director of ICT, Mr. Francis Wasa expressed gratitude to the Office of the SGF for supporting Huawei’s efforts to train civil servants in ICT. He also congratulated the awardees for excelling in the training.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, director of ICT at the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Adebayo Adeyemi thanked Huawei and the Federal Government for enhancing civil servants’ ICT skills, which have broadened their perspectives on e-governance and related topics.
