The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has commended stakeholders in the aviation sector for their commitment to unity, service excellence and social responsibility. The ministry also pledged continued support for initiatives that promote the growth and transformation of the aviation industry in line with national development goals.
The permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, emphasised the significance of collaborative efforts among aviation players, stating that the unity displayed by airline operators strengthens the government’s resolve to project Nigeria’s aviation sector in a positive light.
“Such partnerships not only foster professional excellence but also reinforce regional and religious harmony, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda,” he said.
Kana made this remark in his office while receiving a delegation from the Nigeria Aviation Award (NIGAV), led by its CEO, Fortune Idu. The visit included the newly crowned 2025 King and Queen of the Air and representatives from SOS Children’s Villages.
He reiterated the ministry’s readiness to support programmes that elevate industry standards and improve passenger experience. “We fully endorse noble initiatives like the King and Queen of the Air contest, which reflects professionalism, excellence and unity. The ministry is prepared to assist in awareness and advocacy efforts that benefit the aviation sector as a whole,” he added.
Idu noted that the organisation, now in its 25th year, has consistently promoted aviation advancement through events such as the Airport Summit, Drone Tech Expo and its annual performance benchmark assessment. He recalled that the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, was recently honoured with the “Aviation Personality of the Year” award for his leadership.
Highlighting the essence of the King and Queen of the Air contest, Idu explained that it celebrates excellence among cabin crew members while promoting camaraderie among airlines. The 2025 winners, Henry Chika and Aisha Yakub, were recognised for their leadership and commitment to enhancing in-flight service. They also pledged to donate a portion of their ambassadorial privileges to SOS Children’s Villages as part of their commitment to social responsibility.
A representative of SOS Children’s Villages shared that the organisation, active in Nigeria since 1973, supports vulnerable children with education, healthcare and stable homes. With operations in over 130 countries, SOS aims to empower 3 million children globally. He noted that collaborations with the aviation sector help amplify their mission and provide vulnerable youth with opportunities to thrive.
