The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari stated that the newly commissioned ultra-modern fish hatchery in Calabar, Cross River State, will enhance Nigeria’s aquaculture sector and generate revenue for farmers.
Kyari highlighted this project as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
“This massive hatchery project not only contributes to food security but also creates employment and income opportunities for youth and women in aquaculture,” Kyari said. The facility, capable of producing 20 million fingerlings and 12 million juveniles annually, will also serve as a centre for training and research, aligning with national food security objectives.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to agro-industrialisation, adding that the facility will encourage collaboration between the government and private sector to drive development in the aquaculture sub-sector.
USAID Feed the Future chief of party, Dr. Ben Odoemena remarked that the organisation will continue to support aquaculture in line with the administration’s agricultural policies. A statement by the ministry’s director of information signed by

The highlight was the commissioning of the fish hatchery facility.
