FG Assures Support For German Coop Projects In Nigeria

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, has assured of the government’s support for German Cooperation’s projects in the country.

The minister made this known while receiving a delegation from the German Cooperation, led by its project manager Ozman Altamirano, in his office in Abuja.

Balarabe urged the delegation to expand their agroforestry, rice, mango and banana farm production from Benue and Nasarawa states to other parts of the country. He commended the German delegation for providing technical support to the forestry department of the ministry to achieve its mandate.

The minister further highlighted the importance of agroforestry systems and innovations as vital tools in combating climate change and supporting sustainable agriculture in the country. He also promised to participate in the upcoming series of events organised by the German Cooperation in Nigeria.

Earlier, Altamirano provided an overview of the German Cooperation’s interventions in Nigeria, which include environmental sustainability management. He mentioned that one of their projects in Benue and Nassarawa states covers over 150,000 hectares of land for rice, mango, banana production, and agroforestry. Additionally, he explained that the second phase of their projects will extend to other parts of the northern states, focusing mainly on rice production and tree planting.
