Employees of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) have praised the executive chairman of the commission, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka for her significant strides in improving employee welfare within the organisation.

This commendation was delivered by the chairman of the commission’s tripartite union, Comrade Benson Ameh, during a union congress meeting held in Abuja on Monday.

In his welcome address, Ameh urged union members to express gratitude to Dankaka for her proactive efforts in addressing the welfare of workers within the commission.

“I use this opportunity to thank and appreciate the executive chairman, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, swho graciously approved almost 80 per cent of the demands made by the staff,” he said.

Ameh highlighted several welfare improvements introduced under Dankaka’s leadership, including the approval and sustainability of job-specific allowances (JSA), payment of promotion arrears and the facilitation of the 2024 promotion exercise. Other initiatives include the “provision of cost-free buses for staff to ease transportation costs amid rising fuel prices, enhanced capacity-building opportunities through training and workshops and addressing concerns over National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions from staff salaries.”

Speaking at the event, the director of human resources management, Mallam Sani Ibrahim commended Dankaka for her open-door policy and dedication to staff welfare. He noted that in the recently released promotion results, about 97 per cent of staff were promoted, expressing optimism that this figure could rise to 100 per cent in the future. He also encouraged staff to be punctual and committed to their duties.

The director of finance and accounts, Comrade Tons Baso-Sisei expressed his gratitude to Dankaka for her unwavering support since his appointment. He lauded her efforts in sustaining job-specific allowances, made possible through her cooperation and leadership.

A key highlight of the event was the recognition and send-forth of Comrade Fantur Jacob, a staff member about to embark on pre-retirement leave. Fantur was celebrated by colleagues who lauded his contributions to the commission, urging all employees to leave a legacy of excellence.

In her tribute, Comrade Gidi-Fanimokun described Fantur as a “courageous, immaculate, indefatigable, reliable, dependable, hard-working and honest leader.” She noted his invaluable contributions to staff welfare and prayed for his continued good health in retirement. “Whether we like it or not, one day we will leave the office. We pray to leave in good health and with a worthy legacy,” she added.
