Kayode Oladele Esq. when he led a team on a courtesy visit to the commission headquarters in Abuja.

The acting executive chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Kayode Oladele has expressed the commission’s readiness to collaborate with the original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to promote inclusive development and national unity.

Oladele made this known on Monday, July 14, 2025, when he received a delegation from the Maijagora Peace and Development Initiative, a non-governmental organisation representing the sons and daughters of the FCT’s original inhabitants. The group paid a courtesy visit to the FCC headquarters in Abuja.

Describing the FCC as a critical pillar of Nigeria’s federal structure, Oladele emphasised its mandate to promote fairness, equity, and justice in the distribution of government posts, socioeconomic opportunities and infrastructure among all federating units, including the FCT.

“Our role is to enforce compliance with the principles of equity in the operations of ministries, departments and agencies of government. The Federal Character Commission ensures no group or region is left behind in accessing national resources and opportunities,” Oladele stated.

He called on the original inhabitants to maximise existing opportunities within the FCT and engage constructively with the commission in pursuit of shared developmental goals.

“The FCC is committed to fostering a sense of belonging among all Nigerians by reinforcing loyalty to our common destiny, with special attention to national unity and integration,” he added.

Earlier, the executive director of the Maijagora Peace and Development Initiative, Comrade Muntasir Mohammed commended Oladele’s appointment, describing it as timely and well-deserved. He also lauded the commission for promoting national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

Mohammed highlighted the historical marginalisation of the FCT’s indigenous people, citing loss of identity, economic exclusion and cultural displacement. He urged the commission to support advocacy efforts aimed at reversing years of neglect.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties pledging sustained collaboration to address developmental concerns and promote inclusive growth across the Federal Capital Territory.
