The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has called on aviation unions to prioritize dialogue and collaboration in addressing industry concerns, following a recent publication by Sahara Reporters titled “Aviation Unions Issue 14-Day Ultimatum to Federal Government of Nigeria Over Concessions and Salary Review.”
FAAN clarified that during a Workers’ Congress held on February 25, 2025, aviation unions raised concerns regarding their non-inclusion in the ongoing airport concession committee deliberations and the delay in implementing the negotiated consequential adjustment of the New Minimum Wage. These issues were formally presented to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo during an interactive meeting with union representatives in Lagos on February 28, 2025.
In response, Keyamo directed the immediate inclusion of union representatives in the concession committee to ensure transparency and full participation in the ongoing process. He also assured the unions of his commitment to expediting the implementation of the revised salary structure for FAAN staff.
In a statement issued by FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah the authority reaffirmed its dedication to implementing its core values while maintaining cordial relations with aviation unions. FAAN emphasised that continuous dialogue and understanding remain the best approach to addressing industrial disputes.
The authority further reassured the flying public of its commitment to delivering world-class airport services in line with global best practices.
