The Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroya, has called out to the staff of the ministry to engage more in exercises, as they guarantee health, bring about the soundness of the body and mind and increase productivity.
Adegoroya stated this when the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, visited with members of the ministry’s sports club to present to him a set of trophies won at the June edition of the walking and jogging exercise to commemorate the 2022 Civil Service Week.
“I am going to join you and we are going to do this together,” he promised, adding that keeping healthy promotes a lighter and happier individual while the failure to do so affects the body negatively.
He urged the sports club to make sure the trophies which are for a cycle of one month when the next exercise comes up must be brought back home in July and always.
Adegoroya heaped plaudits on the permanent secretary, saying her “exceptional, innovative and purposeful leadership” inspired the sports club to win laurels.
He equally appreciated her efforts at fully kitting out the staff and setting up an ultra-modern workout gym, saying it was a pointer to a new Nigeria in which leaders prioritise the welfare of all.
On the numerous requests that were made, including a bus for the club, Adegoroya promised to discuss the issues with the Minister of Transportation, Engr. Ma’azu Jaji Sambo and to assist within his capacity to the attainment of a fit and healthy workforce.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Ajani noted that the sedentary nature of ‘office’ work encourages the accumulation of calories which is unhealthy for the body. “It was in this regard that I encouraged the Ministry’s sports club to resuscitate sporting activities.”
Also speaking at the presentation, the director, human resource management, Patricia Umo observed that sports are the only fora that promote peace, development and unity irrespective of political affiliations. He prayed minister to support the permanent secretary to give the club the desired push.
The ministry’s sports manager, Engr. Samson Ojon explained that the trophies were for the Best Kitted and the Highest Number of Turnout categories at the event. He pledged that with the kind of support the ministry’s management availed, the team will continue to do well.
