The Federal Government has appointed Dr. Dele Anisere as the new registrar of the Dental Therapists’ Registration Board of Nigeria (DThRBN), a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The appointment, which took effect on May 5, 2025, is for a single term of four years.

This was announced in a statement issued Thursday in Abuja by deputy director of press and public relations in the ministry, Alaba Balogun.

While presenting the letter of appointment to Anisere, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako lauded the integrity of the selection process.

“Your appointment, which followed a rigorous and transparent selection process, is highly commendable. I am pleased that we have chosen someone capable of repositioning the DThRBN over the next four years,” Salako said.

He charged the new registrar to prioritise sanitising the profession by eliminating quackery and halting the rise of unaccredited programmes in health training institutions.

“As long as we have quacks, it means the board is not meeting its core responsibility of regulating practice. Once regulation is effective, quackery should disappear,” the minister stated.

Salako also encouraged Anisere to leverage his experience and professional network to advance the growth and integrity of dental therapy in Nigeria.

Anisere is a seasoned dental therapist with extensive academic and professional credentials. He holds a higher national diploma in dental therapy, a postgraduate diploma in social work, and a Master’s degree in social work. These qualifications provide him with a strong foundation in oral healthcare and a deep understanding of the social factors affecting patient outcomes.

Prior to his appointment, Anisere was deeply involved in clinical practice, education, and advocacy within the dental therapy field. His work has consistently focused on professional development and addressing systemic challenges faced by practitioners in Nigeria.

Though specific details of his previous roles are not widely documented, Anisere is regarded as a committed and experienced professional. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to enhance the regulation, visibility and standards of dental therapy practice nationwide.

As registrar, he is expected to strengthen regulatory frameworks, elevate professional standards, and tackle the menace of unqualified practitioners within the sector.
