The Minister of State for Steel Development, H.E Uba Ahmadu has underscored the potential of collaboration between private organisations and the government in driving positive change.
Speaking as the special guest of honour at the grand finale of the Mennonite Economic Development Association (MEDA) event, themed “Nigeria Way”, held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, the minister highlighted the success of the collaborative project focused on youth entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment in Northern Nigeria.
Maigari praised the resilience of the communities involved, spanning seven local government areas, including Bauchi, Dass, Ganjuwa, Toro, Jama’are, Warji and Katagum.
He highlighted the significance of the Nigeria Way project as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to youth entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment. The minister commended the project’s impact on transforming lives, establishing sustainable businesses and empowering women, who are integral to the communities.
The “close-out” event symbolised the culmination of a cooperative effort that showcased the power of collaboration in driving positive change. Maigari stated, “Let this be a testament to what we can achieve when we work together, each bringing our unique strength to the table”. He expressed anticipation for the continued impact of collective efforts in shaping a brighter, more cooperative future in line with the present administration’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
In her welcome address, the country project manager of MEDA, Grace Fosen highlighted the organisation’s seven-year journey focused on empowerment, resilience and positive transformation. She outlined significant achievements, including providing over N1 billion in financial access, supporting mini-agro equipment fabrication for youths and empowering more than 9,000 women and youths with productive technologies and technical assistance.
Counsellor and head of cooperation, Canada, Djifa Ahado delivered a goodwill message, affirming Canada’s commitment to collaborate with Nigeria to reduce extreme poverty and build a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous society. Canada emphasised its ongoing support for projects that enhance employment and business opportunities, particularly for vulnerable Nigerian youths, with a strong focus on women’s economic empowerment through rural agriculture, value chain development, and income-generating opportunities.
