As part of its commitment to involve local government areas in the Open Government Partnership (OGP), the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) has launched a two-day workshop to develop the Open Government Partnership Local Action Plan (LAP) for the Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a press statement from the programme coordinator of Centre LSD, Mr. Lawal Amodu the workshop aims to produce a two-year plan that will guide the council in implementing Open Governance principles. He emphasised that developing this action plan will provide a detailed roadmap for how the council will achieve its OGP objectives.
Amodu noted that several engagements had taken place to encourage the Abaji Area Council to join the OGP. These efforts culminated in the council’s declaration of intent to join the OGP in January 2025. During this workshop, the council will outline the parameters for its OGP Local Action Plan to be implemented over the next two years.
Abaji becomes the fourth FCT Area Council to join the OGP in Nigeria, following AMAC, Gwagwalada and Kwali. The goal of participating in the OGP is to enhance the governance process by making it open, transparent and accountable, while also ensuring that citizens are central to these processes.
