The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) recently began a two-day workshop to develop the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Local Action Plan for Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This is a part of their project “Promoting Transparency and Accountability in the Governance Process through the Implementation of Open Government Partnership in Nigeria,” an initiative that aims to bring local government areas on board with the OGP.
The programme coordinator of Centre LSD, Mr. Lawal Amodu stated that the workshop’s goal is to create a plan that will guide the Area Council in implementing the OGP over the next two years. The statement emphasized that the action plan aims to showcase how the objectives of the OGP will be achieved within the council once implemented. A total of 22 participants, including top Council actors and Civil Society actors knowledgeable about the OGP, will lead in developing the action plan.
Gwagwalada area council became part of the OGP in late 2023, making it the second local government in Nigeria to embrace these principles after AMAC. The primary objective of joining the OGP is to make the governance process in the area open, transparent, accountable and citizen-driven. Centre LSD congratulated the council for electing to join the global partnership governed by four key principles; transparency, accountability, citizens’ participation and technology and innovation.
The statement urged well-meaning citizens to engage with the Centre LSD OGP Project through various social media channels.
